WASHINGTON – Today, the Committee on House Administration, led by Chairman Robert Brady, D-Pa., and Ranking Republican Dan Lungren, R-Calif., favorably reported H. Res. 279 which, if passed by the House, will authorize committee funding and require committees to return before House Administration at the end of the 2009 fiscal year to reexamine budget authorizations.

In additional to the new end of year budget review, which was adopted into the resolution via an amendment introduced by Lungren, members of the Committee on House Administration pledged to additional measures to ensure accountability, transparency and fair budget allocation practices pertaining to committee operations. One committee initiative already underway is an electronic template for monthly committee reports that is designed to increase public access to each committee's operations and expenses.

"It is imperative that committees operate at the highest level of transparency and accountability," Lungren stated after House Administration reported the budget resolution to the full House for consideration. "I commend the Chairman for his commitment to ensuring adherence to the two thirds/one third budget allocations, and for his dedication to a more transparent committee reporting process – hopefully these are only the first steps."
