WASHINGTON – Today, Committee on House Administration Chairman Candice Miller, R-Mich., issued the following statement regarding the House’s decision to publish the updated U.S. Code online in XML:

“Before today, given the ever-evolving nature of the U.S. Code and its antiquated production methods, the process of accessing and understanding current law was often costly and time consuming. This new feature created by the House Office of the Law Revision Counsel provides everyone with free online access to the complete, updated U.S. Code.

“I thank the Speaker for his continued commitment to improving the transparency and accountability of the People’s House. This improvement, which will save both time and money, changes the legislative transparency landscape.”

Background:
Today, as part of the House of Representatives’ continued commitment to improving transparency and accountability, the House announced the creation of the new online XML version of the United States Code that is available for bulk downloading. The XML version of the United States Code, which will reside on the website of the House’s Office of the Law Revision Counsel, will be open and available to all, free of charge.
