WASHINGTON – Committee on House Administration Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today hosted a virtual election administration roundtable with officials from Wisconsin. Davis, along with his Wisconsin colleagues, U.S. Reps. Glenn Grothman (WI-06) and Tom Tiffany (WI-07), discussed election administration issues with Wisconsin Elections Commissioners Meagan Wolfe and Marge Bostelmann, Wisconsin State Senator Kathy Bernier (R-Chippewa Falls), Election Assistance Commissioners Christy McCormick and Don Palmer, and several other county election officials in Wisconsin.

This is the third virtual roundtable in a series titled "Administering Safe Elections During a Pandemic" where Davis hears from local election officials on the challenges they are facing and works to bring resources to help them as they prepare to administer the 2020 election. Davis hosted virtual roundtables with election officials in Illinois and Georgia earlier this month.

"We continue to hear from local election officials about how complicated vote-by-mail can be and what they're doing to ensure voters can safely and securely vote this fall," said Davis. "Election officials in Wisconsin very clearly laid out how mail-in voting can be problematic and unintentionally disenfranchise voters if a ballot is filled out incorrectly or doesn't arrive on time. In addition to investing in PPE to ensure people can safely vote in person, Wisconsin election officials are using an intelligent barcode tracking system that allows voters to track their absentee ballot. I believe this is critical to protecting Americans' right to vote."

Milwaukee Oversight Letter
Last month, Davis sent a letter to the Milwaukee Election Commission concerning issues during the 2020 primary. The letter seeks more information about the city's decision to significantly reduce in-person polling locations resulting in long lines, its failure to appropriately utilize the state's deployment of the Wisconsin National Guard for poll workers, and hiring issues within the Milwaukee Election Commission. The committee has yet to receive a response.

EASE Act
Earlier this month, Davis and several House Republicans introduced the Emergency Assistance for Safe Elections (EASE) Act to help states ensure those who want to vote in person can do so safely and make mail-in voting more secure by cleaning their voter rolls. The EASE Act provides the assistance state and local election administrators have been asking Congress for while putting commonsense restrictions on what the funding can go towards. Davis is encouraging this bill to be included as part of the negotiations for the next coronavirus relief package.

Potential Fraud
Davis also referred to reports from the New York Post about a whistleblower who is a Democratic operative who spoke about knowledge of mail-in balloting fraud in multiple states and how easy it is to tamper with this process. CLICK HERE for the article.
