Washington, DC – Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) released this statement on sleeping accommodations for the National Guard members following reports of servicemembers being forced to use parking garages as resting areas:

"There was clearly a breakdown in communication somewhere along the way because there's no shortage of in-door space within the Capitol complex and no shortage of support to provide our servicemembers with adequate space. However, use of that space needs to be clearly communicated and coordinated. I have been told the images of servicemembers in garages was the result of unauthorized individuals trying to coordinate space. To that end, we have stressed the need for real-time coordination with senior officials within the Capitol Police, Architect of the Capitol and National Guard moving forward. My office has been assured by USCP Chief Pittman and National Guard General Walker that every servicemember has a hotel room for when they are off shift and they will have appropriate resting areas that are clearly communicated to use when on shift. The USCP and National Guard did an incredible job ensuring our country had a safe Inauguration Day. I am extremely grateful for each National Guard member and we need to make sure they are shown the respect they deserve."
