WASHINGTON – Today, GOP Members of the Committee on House Administration sent a letter to the Elections Subcommittee Chair, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., requesting that the Subcommittee hold a hearing on the widespread, fraudulent voter registration activities conducted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to determine if federal legislative action is necessary.

In their letter Committee Republicans, including Ranking Republican Vern Ehlers, R-Mich., stated that the recent investigations of ACORN’s election-related fraud in multiple states including Ohio, Indiana, Nevada, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico and Pennsylvania, “merit congressional examination.”

According to the GOP Members, “the Committee should investigate to what level ACORN and other third party voter registration groups are engaged in coordinating or promoting these election fraud activities across the country.”

Chief Public Advocate of the Consumers Rights League, James Terry, who testified last month at a joint hearing held by the Committee on House Administration’s Subcommittee on Elections and the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, testified to ACORN’s “corruptive” voter registration activities that include: falsifying addresses, names and social security numbers; registering deceased, underage and ineligible individuals; forging signatures; and submitting incomplete forms. “ACORN’s pattern of fraud can no longer be dismissed as a series of unfortunate events,” Terry stated in his testimony. “Rather than showing any signs of improvement, all signs point to increased lawbreaking.”

In their request, GOP Members of the Committee asked that Chairwoman Lofgren schedule a hearing and seek testimony on how to assure the public that measures are in place to combat fraud, and prevent further damage to the integrity of the nation’s electoral process.
