Washington - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed two Committee on House Administration measures by voice vote. 
  • H.R. 250, to direct the Joint Committee on the Libary to procure a statue of Benjamin Franklin for placement in the Capitol
  • H.R. 469, the Semiquincentennial Congressional Time Capsule Act

Background:

H.R. 250 will require the Joint Committee on the Library to contract for and place a statue of Benjamin Franklin in a permanent public location where it is accessible during a guided tour provided by the Capitol Visitor Center.

H.R. 469, the Semiquincentennial Congressional Time Capsule Act, will require the Architect of the Capitol to create a congressional time capsule to honor the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The contents of the capsule will be selected by the Office of the Speaker of the House, the Office of the Minority Leader of the House, and the Offices of the Majority and Minority Leaders of the Senate. The time capsule will be buried on the west lawn of the Capitol on or before July 4, 2026 and will remain sealed until July 4, 2276.
