Legislation’s Sponsor Says Measure Will Help Facilitate Bipartisan, Bicameral Discussions on Government Spending

WASHINGTON – Today, after the Senate passed “No Budget, No Pay,” House legislation that temporarily suspends the debt ceiling and withholds Member pay if they fail to pass a budget before April 15, 2013, Committee on House Administration Chair Candice Miller, R-Mich., issued the following statement:

“Today, through its passage of ‘No Budget, No Pay,’ the Senate joined the House in acknowledging its responsibility to do its job and pass a budget, or risk losing a paycheck.

“Unfortunately, it has been four years since the Senate passed a budget. Since then, we have seen $1 trillion deficits and our debt soar to over $16 trillion. It is my hope that this measure will help facilitate the bipartisan, bicameral discussions needed to finally address our government’s out-of-control spending.”

The No Budget, No Pay Act (H.R. 325), sponsored by Miller and House Ways and Means Chairman David Camp, R-Mich., passed the House 285-144 on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.
