WASHINGTON - Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01) released the following statement upon William P. McFarland being sworn-in as House Sergeant at Arms.

“Sergeant McFarland is the best man for the job," said Chairman Steil. "His experience in security and intelligence will ensure everyone can feel safe while visiting the U.S. Capitol. I was proud to stand alongside him and his family today for his swearing-in, and I look forward to continuing our work together to ensure the People’s House remains open and accessible to all. Background:
Mr. McFarland began his Capitol Hill career in 1991 as a Security Aide for the United States Capitol Police, a position he held until 1995. He transitioned to the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he was Director of Security from 1995 to 2005. In 2005, he became Director of the Office of House Security, where he remained until 2021. Mr. McFarland briefly left Capitol Hill for the private sector until he returned as Acting Sergeant at Arms on January 7, 2023.
