WASHINGTON – Today, the House passed H.Res.132, funding House committees for the 114th Congress, by unanimous voice vote. Committee Chairman Candice Miller (R-MI) issued the following statement after House passage:

“House committees have worked hard to find legislative solutions for our nation while each conducts vigorous oversight of the executive and judicial branches of government. The committee funding authorization for the 114th Congress was thoughtfully developed in a bipartisan manner and covers specific requests from each Chair and Ranking Member. The increase authorized in this resolution is modest and targeted, and does not require any new spending in the House’s overall budget, only redirecting already approved resources to new priorities.

“There were many needs for this targeted additional funding. For example, the Armed Services Committee has a great need for additional specialized staff to help with conducting vigorous oversight in pursuit of major overdue reforms at the Pentagon which could save the nation tens of billions of dollars. Another example is the Veterans Affairs Committee which has immense new challenges with conducting the oversight needed to get to the bottom of the scandalous treatment of our veterans at VA hospitals across this nation, and to make the legislative changes which are necessary to ensure that those who have served the cause of freedom get the care and benefits they have earned. We not only believe that this is a very fiscally responsible use of additional resources, but an imperative duty. In addition, this authorized funding will be used for committees’ overall increased oversight, as well as an increase in field hearings, a possible Judicial impeachment, and to create legislative reforms for problematic or failing agencies.

“With the passage of this resolution, the House authorizes a very fiscally prudent use of additional resources.”
