Thank You for Keeping our Elections Running
March 16, 2020
WASHINGTON - As COVID-19 continues to affect our nation, Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Rodney Davis (IL-13) and top Republican on the Subcommittee on Elections issued the following statement thanking poll workers and all election administrators on Tuesday's primary elections.
"Many election administrators and poll workers who don't have the option to telework like many across the country have been tirelessly working, often without recognition, to ensure that our primary elections are going off without a hitch during these uncertain times. The coronavirus pandemic is a serious concern across the world, causing some of our own nation's primaries to be postponed," said Ranking Member Davis. "In light of this, it is essential that the 2020 elections not be deterred, and I am extremely grateful for all of the poll workers who have been dedicated to seeing these primaries through, especially in my home state of Illinois today. Thank you for your perseverance and commitment to maintaining a functioning and healthy democracy, and I encourage you all to protect yourselves and continue to practice good hygiene as directed by the CDC during the primary today and during future elections."
"I would also like to remind states that in this time of need, there are existing federal resources available, such as the $425 million in existing Help America Vote Act or HAVA grants. These funds can be used for any purpose to improve election administration in a state, like hiring more poll workers, increasing vote-by-mail efforts, and securing other resources states see necessary to carry out their elections."
The Election Assistance Commission has published a web page for states with helpful information. You can see their COVID-19 guidance by clicking here.
