WASHINGTON – Committee on House Administration (CHA) Ranking Member Rodney Davis (IL-13) and House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Doug Collins (GA-09) issued the following statement after Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden announced her appointment of Karyn Temple to serve as the Register of Copyrights:

“We offer our sincere congratulations to Karyn Temple on her appointment by the Librarian of Congress as the 13th Register of Copyrights. The Copyright Office will greatly benefit from her leadership and knowledge. Copyright intensive industries contribute substantially to the U.S. economy - an estimated 5.5 million jobs and $1.3 trillion to the GDP in 2018. The Copyright Office is critical to our nation’s copyright system, and we hope this appointment will bring stability to the office and encourage its advancement and modernization going forward.”

Karyn Temple had served as Associate Register of Copyrights and Director of Policy and International Affairs for the United States Copyright Office since 2013. Prior to joining the U.S. Copyright Office in 2011, she served as Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General of the United States.

The Copyright Office is responsible for administering a set of laws, which include registration, the recordation of title and licenses, a number of statutory licensing provisions and other aspects of the 1976 Copyright Act and the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The Committee on House Administration retains jurisdiction over operations of the Copyright Office, as it falls under the purview of the Library of Congress, a longstanding oversight entity of CHA.
