WASHINGTON – Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Rodney Davis (IL-13) issued the following statement laying out his priorities for the House Officers during the Committee's oversight hearing, House Officer Priorities for 2019 and Beyond.

"There is a constant balance between the priorities of the institutional offices and the priorities of Member offices who rely on their services to operate," said Ranking Member Davis in his opening statement. "The priorities of both are often in alignment, but at times there is a disconnect between what institutional offices think Member offices need versus what they actually need."

Davis went on to say, "My overarching priorities for all the House Officers do can be broken into four areas: First, improving proactive communication with offices. Second, building a strong culture of service. Third, instituting common sense processes and procedures - we don't need to make things overly bureaucratic just because we can. Finally, ensuring the House is getting a return on its investment for the additional resources Officers receive. With additional resources comes additional expectations."

The Committee on House Administration (CHA) was established in 1947 as part of a larger effort to streamline the U.S. House of Representatives' committee system and to modernize its internal management and operations. After more than 70 years since the committee was established, CHA's two principal functions include oversight of federal elections and day-to-day operations in the House.

The House Officers who testified before the Committee today are: The Honorable Paul D. Irving, Sergeant at Arms; The Honorable Cheryl L. Johnson, Clerk of the House; The Honorable Philip G. Kiko, Chief Administrative Officer; and The Honorable Michael T. Ptasienski, House Inspector General.
