WASHINGTON - Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-IL-13) and Chairperson Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-19) issued the following statement on the Capitol Police Board announcement of Acting Chief of Police Steven A. Sund being named as the 10th Chief of Police of the United States Capitol Police (USCP).

"We congratulate Steven Sund on his selection as the next Chief of the United States Capitol Police. His long career in law enforcement and his experience serving as Assistant and Acting Chief of Police give us confidence that he can excel as a leader and an asset to the Department. We look forward to continued collaboration with Chief Sund to ensure the U.S. Capitol is a safe and welcoming environment for Members, staff, and visitors.”

Background:
Since it's creation, one of the Committee on House Administration's (CHA) principal functions is oversight of day-to-day operations in the House of Representatives, including the role of overseer of House security. The Committee has and continues to work closely with the Capitol Police to improve security on the House side of the complex while maintaining a high level of accessibility for citizens.
