"Since the 2016 presidential election, both Congress and states have made strong efforts to ensure our voting systems are more secure. States are receiving the funding they need to update outdated technology and bolster their election security efforts. We should be proud of these efforts and focus on areas where the federal government can continue to assist states," said Ranking Member Davis. "Certain election components, like online centralized voter registration databases, didn't exist when the Help America Vote Act, Congress' last major election overhaul, was initially passed in 2002. It’s been almost 20 years since this law has been updated, and with the recent developments in election security and technology, it’s time to modernize these regulations.

"Democrats should not be allowed to continue putting their political priorities ahead of their official conduct within the House of Representatives. I am voting to deny the contract for this political consultant and advise that if the Judiciary Committee wants to substitute consultants as staff, then they should be transparent and quit outsourcing impeachment responsibilities, hire them as official staff, and ensure that all applicable disclosure of conflicts is not hidden from the American taxpayer as it has been for the last year."

"I'm thankful that states are finally getting the funding they asked for to help bolster their election security efforts. Providing flexible grants that will allow states to decide how to use their resources to upgrade their election and cyber security with a percentage match from states is what I hoped to accomplish in my own bill that my colleagues across the aisle unfortunately refused to consider," said Ranking Member Davis. "Regardless of how it's passed in Congress, I'm pleased states are finally getting the resources they need, thanks to Republicans and Democrats coming together...

H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act, is the fourth partisan attempt by this majority to federalize our elections. One thing all four of these partisan bills have in common is they all have good titles. But in October, the majority jammed through H.R. 4617, the SHIELD Act, an attempt to federally hijack campaign finance law in this country. In June, the majority jammed through H.R. 2722, the SAFE Act, an attempt to federally hijack election infrastructure in this country. And in February, the majority jammed through H.R. 1, the For the People Act, a piece of legislation, that as introduced, would fund all our campaigns with tax dollars from hard working Americans.Catchy titles can’t hide the facts, and the facts are that these four bills are bad, partisan policy that would negatively affect the American people.

Committee on House Administration's Subcommittee on Elections Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) was mentioned in The Fulcrum yesterday after the majority released a report based on the Subcommittee's efforts this Congress under Chairwoman Marcia Fudge to create a record of voter discrimination to reauthorize Section 4(b) of the Voting Rights Act. It is of the minority’s opinion that there is no obvious reason for Section 4 reauthorization, which would require municipalities to pre-clear all election processes, such as polling locations, through the federal government. Sections 2 & 3 of the Voting Rights Act are still in effect to safeguard the public from discrimination at the ballot box.
