Vern Ehlers (R-Mich.), Ranking Republican Member of the Committee on House Administration, released the following statement today following House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) announcement that Congressman Robert Brady of Pennsylvania had been named Chairman of the Committee on House Administration.
WASHINGTON — With less than 18 months until the 2008 General Elections, Democrats on the Committee on House Administration opted to sidestep the bipartisan approach offered by GOP members in today’s proceedings, and rammed their 11th hour attempt at election reform legislation through committee.
WASHINGTON – In recent weeks, state and local officials from over 35 states, and various other national organizations, have expressed their opposition to H.R. 811, election reform legislation introduced by Representative Rush Holt, D-N.J.
The Committee on House Administration will meet on Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at 1:00 p.m., in 1310 LHOB to consider H.R. 811. Also included will be consideration of four election contests: Russell v. Brown-Waite (FL–5), Gonzalez v. Diaz-Balart, Lincoln (FL–21), Curtis v. Feeney (FL-24), Cox v. McCrery (LA–4).
The Congressional Task Force investigating the contest between Democratic candidate Christine Jennings and Republican incumbent Representative Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., will meet on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., in 1309 LHOB.

WASHINGTON — Last night, the Committee on House Administration’s Ranking Member, Vern Ehlers, R-Mich., appointed Representative Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., to serve on the Congressional Task Force that will investigate the contest between Democratic candidate Christine Jennings and Republican incumbent Representative Vern Buchanan, R-Fla.
The Joint Committee on the Library will meet on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 2:15 p.m., in S-115 to conduct its organizational meeting for the 110th Congress. Immediately following that event will be the Joint Committee on Printing organizational meeting at 2:30 p.m., also in S-115.
